History of BIG

BIG has been active since 2007. In early years BIG functioned as an independent ear, a sounding board and a voice for local people experiencing mental health problems. BIG would come together at regular meetings and patient experience  would be fed to commissioners with a view to making a positive difference to mental health services.

In May 2012, funding from the local ‘Age of Opportunities’ fund was secured. Securing this funding was a significant landmark for BIG; it enabled the expansion of services to provide the range of support sessions described above.

BIG continues to stand by its original aim of reducing stigma and providing a strong, independent voice. However, this now complemented the support groups we run which promote  good mental health recovery and support people to manage their mental health in a positive way on a day to day basis.
